South African legendary kwaito group Boom Shaka prepares to make a monumental return to the stage, marking their comeback after three decades since their groundbreaking debut.

According to ZiMOJA, Boom Shaka is currently in the studio working on a highly anticipated new album. They have decided to work independently as Kalawa Jazzme, their previous label, is no longer actively producing music except for special projects. The group confirmed their return but did not provide specific details about their upcoming album.

Boom Shaka was formed in 1993 and originally consisted of two female members, Lebo Mathosa and Thembi Seete, and two male members, Junior Sokhela and Theo Nhlengethwa. They released their debut album in 1994 and swiftly emerged as one of the pioneering groups in South Africa and across the continent.

Tragically, Lebo, a key member of Boom Shaka passed away in an accident in October 2006 at the age of 29.

Additionally, the publication learned that Theo, one of the founding members of Boom Shaka, was hospitalised after snapping a joint during gym training.

His injury has delayed the group’s plans for their 30th-anniversary tour, and he spent weeks in hospital. He continues to experience pain, especially in cold weather, and as a result, the group has had to cancel some appearances and interviews to allow Theo to recover fully.

Despite these challenges, Theo’s condition has improved, although he still requires assistance with tasks like getting dressed, which his wife helps with. The group has confirmed they are working on new music but have not disclosed more information.
