Saturday the 2nd of September was a big day for DJ Zinhle as she witnessed her first daughter Kairo Forbes climb on stage, not only to sing her late father Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes’ song, but also joining her on stage when she performed her chart-topping sing-along song Umlilo.
An emotional Zinhle expressed how proud she was of her brave daughter, adding that she wished Kairo didn’t have to be.
The late rapper was gunned down in February this year outside a restaurant in Durban’s Florida road along with his close friend Tebello ‘Tibs’ Motsoane.
Sharing many pictures of her time on stage with Kairo, the mother of two captioned her post:
“After bravely performing her dad’s song in front of thousands of people, my 8-year-old broke down crying saying she just misses her daddy & wishes he was here. Actually, Kairo tries a lot to suppress her feelings and this is one of the few times I’ve seen her cry like that…
“This is happening while @thando_thabethe is announcing me for my performance. @nadianakai is so brave, she took over as I walked onto the stage crying & heart broken.. Halfway into my first song, @kairo.forbes was standing next to me – check the last slide. You can see that she literally wiped her tears and stood bravely next to me.”
The DJ finished off by saying:
“I am so proud of her but I wish she didn’t need to be so brave. I just wish she still had her dad.”
