Reality TV star Thami Nyandeni spilled the beans on what influenced him to join Married at First Sight.
Thami was paired with Zithobile Sibaya on the Mzansi Magic reality show, where a group of singles agree to marry partners chosen for them by a team of relationship experts. Looking forward to a perfect match, they meet their partners for the first time on their wedding day.
The 35-year-old recently sat down with Lungelo KM on his podcast, Engineer Your Life, to open up. He revealed that the reality show failed to fix his love life, highlighting the emotional challenges he faced and the personal journey he took to heal and grow from the experiences.
He mentioned that he joined the show because of trauma from past relationships.
“I don’t want to lie, they were horrible. That’s why I even went to the show. I wanted to find out, maybe there was a problem with me and trying to show myself to people and let them judge, criticise and raise me,” said Thami.
He also shared how his upbringing influenced his views on love and marriage.
“Have you ever seen how it’s like when you are born in polygamy, my brother? We are all the same age. My father impregnated both my mother and aunt. So, there’s another boy who is the same age as me.
“He’s married now and done with life. So, now what is the problem with you bro? There are a lot of questions, in as much as people were always suspecting what was wrong with me.”
Thami also shared his experience of living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which influenced his decision.
“What makes me say that is because one, in the UAE, you cannot just stay with someone you are not married to. But you can, it’s just that there are things you have have to do and hide in public. I had a big home, thinking one day I will stay with my family,” he said.
