The first season of The Masked Singer SA has concluded and fans were excited to see that South African music star Holley Rey was the inaugural winner.

In an epic finale, there were four contestants remaining as Lollipop eliminated Lion (Abdul Khoza) and Rhino beat Tree (Maps Maponyane) meaning Lollipop and Rhino advanced to the final.

In the final battle, Lollipop and Rhino both performed a duet of Justin Bieber’s Baby and Lollipop emerged victorious and claim the Golden Mask Trophy.

According to The Citizen, the panelists were also able to finally solve the mystery of who Rhino was, revealing it to be Afrikaans music superstar Kurt Darren. After the show, panelist Somizi Mhlongo said Holley was born to be a history-maker.

“Lollipop was born to be a history maker. Lollipop was born to be a record-holder. She became the first woman to win Song of the Year after the legendary Brenda Fassie twenty years ago. Lollipop is Holly Rey,” he said.

Holley said that being on the show was the best experience for her.

“I had so much fun. It was also very challenging, the mask was so heavy, so hot. They even had to put in a little fan inside the mask for me. I was really grateful for the experience. I felt like a kid the entire time – it was like reliving my childhood and it was just the best experience,” IOL quoted her as saying.
