Lovers of all things theatre and music, it’s time to get excited as the Waterfront Theatre School is set to premier the hit musical ‘Heathers-The Musical’ at the Artscape Theatre. The musical will be making its debut in South Africa, as various adaptations have been performed across the world.

Heathers: The Musical is a musical based on Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy’s musical adaptation of Daniel Waters’ original with the same name. The local version was directed by Paul Griffiths and in addition to talent from the Waterfront Theatre School, talented Liesel Irene Horn, William Young, Rachael Saunders, Azande Dube, Tyde Hickman and Kudzai Kamwendo are part of the well-rounded cast as well.

Speaking to IOL, director Paul Griffiths said this about the show, “Through its sharp wit and memorable characters, it sheds light on the toxic behaviours that can emerge in the pressure-cooker environment of adolescence. But crucially, it also offers a glimmer of hope. The overall message of ‘Heathers’ is that there is a better way —a way where we choose kindness over cruelty, support over sabotage, and understanding over judgment.”

According to the Artscape Theatre, the show is a must-see, “Get ready for the Waterfront Theatre School to entangle you in the dark and twisted world of high school power plays, croquet games, and a trio of Heathers who rule the roost with a flick of their perfectly coiffed hair. This is a show not to be missed.”
