“Keeping Cape Town Warm” – This is the mission of renowned Cape Town based radio station GoodHope FM as they gear themselves up to serving people from diverse backgrounds with food, blankets and various other donations ahead of the cold winter season.
This is an annual campaign that was recently launched on the S3 breakfast show Expresso but has been a beacon of hope to struggling communities for at least 15 years now.
While the 2024 saw Capetonians donating over 5 000 non-perishable food items, 1 400 single blankets and 47 bags of second-hand clothing, this year the station was blessed with a generous R97,000 from Community Chest, a non-profitable organisation which aims to help uplift communities.
Speaking on why this initiative is so important to them was Masi Mdingane, Business Manager for Good Hope FM and 5FM, who said: “We’re not just sending hopeful thoughts and wishes, we’re doing something practical and saving lives.”
“These are our listeners, our communities. We’re showing up where it matters most – on the ground, in the cold, for the people who need us.
“We urge individuals, families, schools, businesses and celebrity friends of the station to show up too – even challenging others on social media. Donate what you can. Every blanket, every tin of food, every rand counts.”

After experiencing overwhelming support from the public last year, this year, they are keen to raise their target to 6 000+ food items, 2 000 blankets, and a significant increase in monetary donations.
