Gogo Maweni granted bail

Renowned traditional healer, Makgotso Mofokeng popularly known as Gogo Maweni has been granted R5 000 bail after spending a week in custody.

Gogo Maweni who has recently been dubbed as Dr Maweni, stands accused of assault with intent to grievous bodily harm (GBH) after she allegedly hit the cousin of the father of her third child and struck her lip with a bottle in an incident dating back to 2019.

After a brief stint with the law, Magistrate Rozelle Khiye granted her bail.

Although no risk to the public was found, the state charged her with providing false information during her bail application, the matter has been postponed to the 11th of February.

Magistrate Rozelle said in court: “The court has heard that the accused has previous convictions and she was asked more than once but she said she does not have any previous convictions. Furthermore, the court understands that she was accused and convicted of theft and fraud charges. This to me suggests that there is an issue of dishonesty on the part of the accused.”

Watch: Newsroom Afrika shared a snippet of Gogo Maweni’s bail application ruling.

If Gogo Maweni has pending murder cases why was she released on bail and Musa Khawula was denied bail ?‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/2GavNv18ZQ
