Veteran actor Glen Gabela is set to make a huge comeback in the film industry after being without a job for a long time.
Glen, best known for the characters he portrayed on Shaka, Uzalo and Molo Fish, among others, had appeared in a disheartening state of living, where he lived in a dusty bedroom with a mouldy fridge filled with bottles of water and an almost empty cupboard.
In an interview with Daily Sun, he revealed that he believes his life is entering a brighter chapter.
“There is a second chance in life. I’ve been down and out, but now things are slowly changing for the better,” he said.
The thespian revealed that at his worst, he survived on about R400, relying on small contributions from family members. Glen told the publication that he met a pastor and a businessman who believed in his vision and talent.
He also revealed that he has secured a small production budget and is working on two films.
“We started 2026 with hope. I’m preparing to shoot my first short film, and from the worst times, things are finally turning for the best,” he said.
Meanwhile, Glen shared his work experience with Masoja Msiza and Leleti Khumalo on Uzalo, revealing that Leleti, who played Manzuza on the show, threatened to have him disqualified from the industry.
“My colleague, my wife Manzuza. She resigned because she won’t be able to work with Glen Gabela. She took it further, from the very same source, apparently, she threatened to go to the SABC to blacklist me, so that the SABC should never ever hire me. I don’t know what happened, I don’t know whether she did.”
