Former ‘Scandal!’ Star Given Stuurman Responds to Rumours About His Career

by Zaghrah Anthony

Given Stuurman Breaks His Silence on Career Rumours

Former Scandal! star Given Stuurman is setting the record straight after reports suggested he has been struggling since leaving the hit soapie. Known for his iconic role as Kgosi, Stuurman has had a career spanning over a decade on television and film, both locally and internationally.

In a candid TikTok video shared recently, Stuurman addressed claims that he was down and out. Filmed on what appears to be a set, he joked, “Don’t take a video of me. They said I am unemployed. You will blow my cover.” The clip, captioned “Given is okay. You guys don’t respect people,” quickly sparked conversations online, with fans rallying to support the actor.

Life After Scandal!

Earlier this month, a report by Drum suggested Stuurman was facing financial difficulties. Neighbours were quoted saying his life had changed significantly since leaving the long-running soap, with piecemeal jobs replacing the steady income of a television contract.

“He’s not the same person we knew when he was on Scandal! His life has changed a lot. When we speak to him, he also admits that his downfall was money and how he misused it,” one neighbour reportedly said.

While the reports painted a concerning picture, Stuurman’s playful response on social media shows he is handling the scrutiny with humor and grace.

A Career Beyond Soapies

Given Stuurman is no stranger to versatility. Beyond Scandal!, he has appeared in Tshisa, Gauteng Maboneng, Shuga, and the film Straight Outta Benoni. Internationally, he earned a small role in Clint Eastwood’s Invictus.

Fans have been quick to remind the media and critics of his accomplishments, noting that a few rough patches do not erase a decade-long career of impact in South African entertainment.

Social Media Reacts

The TikTok clip has resonated with fans, who praised Stuurman for his candidness and humor. Comments ranged from encouragement to relief, with many saying, “He’s fine, let him live!” and “Given has always been a star, money can’t change that.”

It’s clear that while tabloids may focus on temporary setbacks, Given Stuurman’s legacy in South African television and film remains secure and his fans are ready to support his next chapter.
