Gayton Mckenzie and Siya Kolisi joins forces to bring a smile to disabled young fan

by Sergio Miller

There is no denying that South Africa prides itself on being a proud sporting nation. This is all thanks to our courageous athletes who go out and give it their all whenever they find themselves competing on the biggest stage.

So, it certainly comes as no surprise when some of our Springbok players become the heroes of young boys and girls in our country, who dream of one day walking in the shoes of their icons.

Recently, Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie decided to make a young rugby fan’s dream come true when he introduced him to one of his favourite sporting heroes, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.

In a video circulating on social media platforms, the minister can be seen meeting a passionate rugby fan who finds himself wheelchair-bound.

Amazingly, the name of the young man was the same as that of South Africa’s national rugby captain – Siyamthanda.

During their interaction, Minister McKenzie gifted the boy a rugby ball and later offered to call the Bok captain, or his coach, Rassie Erasmus.

Shocked to see his rugby hero answering the call, young Siyamthanda sat in awe, before later engaging in conversation with the father of two.

Watch:

@gaytonmckIt doesn’t take much to make a young star’s day. He obviously had no idea who I was; his parents knew. Luckily I knew someone more important, and kind. Thanks @SiyaKolisi , you should have seen this boy’s face after the call ?? ????♬ original sound – Gayton

Meanwhile, the minister later promised to have his ball signed by the national icon.

Since assuming his reigns as the Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, the charismatic Gayton has gained much popularity and public favour and hopes to bring innovative prospects that will be beneficial to the future of South African sports.
