Award-winning actress Gcina Mkhize and her family are without a home following an eviction notice from the new owner of her Johannesburg mansion.
Mkhize started trending on X (formerly Twitter) earlier in the week when @menzimajolah alerted fans to her plight. A distressed Mkhize is seen pleading with online users for help while standing in front of a house with just a curtain covering the entrance.
The former Isibaya star said she feared for her family’s safety. “I lay awake, asking myself what can happen in the middle of the night when my home is like this. Because anyone can just come in and do as they please,” she explained.

Mkhize said because she was without work, she couldn’t afford to buy food for her four kids and couldn’t leave the house “because what this person wants to do is constructive eviction.”

Fans were quick to offer support and a Back-a-Buddy fund was initiated to help Mkhize and her kids.
A recent video has shed some light on the situation. It appears that Mkhize’s Joburg home had been auctioned after she allegedly defaulted on bond instalments. According to the new owner, she refuses to vacate the property.

New owner Tevin Mashila told The South African that the actress had been made aware that she no longer owns the home and that he planned to do renovation work.

The two parties have been in a standoff since the weekend. According to the publication, Mkhize has been served with eviction orders.
