When it comes to the rules and regulations of South African roads, it seems that nobody is above the law.

Retired footballer Amanda Dlamini, has recently had to learn this the hard way as a recent dispute with a local traffic officer saw her getting herself on the wrong side of the law.

This comes after the former Banyana Banyana footballer captain who now works as an analyst on Supersport was arrested after she was found guilty of exceeding the speed limit on a Johannesburg road. According to the news and entertainment publication, Daily Sun, the incident took place in Douglasdale, north of Johannesburg.

In an interview with the above-mentioned publication, the former international footballer did not deny the allegations has stated her side of the story where she revealed that the main reason for the arrest was because she refused to be intimidated by the traffic officials who later requested that she pay them a bribe.

She added that this refusal was what led to the situation escalating.

“There are always police who want it to be known that they are in charge, but it was resolved. They asked me for R15 000 for bribery, and I did not pay. I felt like they were scaring me,” she revealed.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhilwi meanwhile stated that Amanda’s actions were negligent and reckless, adding that when it comes to the bribe, she needs to lay a complaint where an investigation will be done, she is expected to make her court appearance.

Meanwhile, she is currently thriving in her role working behind the scenes. Last year she made history by becoming the first female to be employed as an analyst by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
