Family over everything, Babes Wodumo’s emotional reunion with father in law

by Silindokuhle Booi

Award-winning musician Babes Wodumo lit up the stage as she celebrated Youth Day with the Umlazi community.

During her electrifying performance, she spotted her father-in-law, Thembinkosi Maphumulo, in the crowd. In a heartwarming moment, Babes requested that he be moved to the VIP section, where they shared a tender reunion.

The reunion brought back memories of the late Mampintsha, Babes’ husband, who passed away in December 2022. According to TshisaLIVE, Babes and Thembinkosi reminisced about their loved one, taking a trip down memory lane. They even visited Mampintsha’s childhood neighbourhood, where they spent hours reminiscing until 10 pm that night.

Babes shared that meeting her father-in-law on what would have been Mampintsha’s birthday was particularly special. “We don’t see each other often, but it reminded me of Mampintsha, who used to call him Mseshi,” she said. The moment was filled with nostalgia and love, as they honoured the memory of the late Big Nuz star.

The celebration also brought mixed emotions for Babes, as June 16 holds a bittersweet significance for her. It’s the birthday of her son with Mampintsha, and she often has to balance work commitments with family celebrations. “Every year, I have to leave him to go to work instead of celebrating his birthday because it’s a busy day for me as an artist,” she shared. This poignant reminder of her late husband’s absence weighed heavily on her heart.

Despite the challenges, Babes remains grateful for the memories and the opportunity to honour her loved ones. She took to her Instagram stories and reposted a fan’s photo, showing her appreciation for the love and support. The gesture showcased her connection with her fans and her desire to share special moments with them.

As Babes continues to celebrate her music and legacy, her love for her family remains a central theme. The bond she shares with her son and her late husband’s family is a testament to the enduring power of love and memory. With each performance and each celebration, Babes Wodumo continues to inspire her fans with her talent, resilience, and devotion to her loved ones.

In the midst of her busy schedule, Babes finds solace in the memories she created with Mampintsha and the legacy they built together. Her music serves as a reminder of their love and the impact they’ve had on their community. As she moves forward, Babes remains committed to her craft, using her platform to share her story and inspire others.

The Youth Day celebration was more than just a performance for Babes; it was a moment to reflect on her journey, her family, and the legacy of her late husband. With every note she sang and every step she took on stage, Babes honoured the memories that continue to shape her life and career.
