Family confirms Presley Chweneyagae’s cause of death

The family of the Oscar Award-winning actor has provided new insights into the sudden cause of the Tsotsi actor’s passing. 

Tuesday morning was a sad day for many in the performing arts industry. This comes after many woke up to the news that one of mzansi’s most celebrated actors, Presley Chweneyagae. 

Those closest to him remembered the forty-year-old as a lively personality with a true passion for acting. Following the news of his passing, there have since been many questions that have arisen, with the most obvious one being the cause of his death. This comes after the South African playwright and director Aubrey Sekhabi told entertainment publication, SowetanLive, that the actor was in good spirits the last time the two saw one another after attending a Sjava concert in Pretoria. 

Meanwhile, the family has since shared new insights into his cause of death. 

On Wednesday, Mzwakhe Sigudla, a family spokesperson, said: 

“We want to put the record straight that it was a natural death as far as we are concerned. He had a complication in relation to breathing.” 

“Paramedics were called at home and he was attended to. We appreciate the professional nature of the paramedics.” 

Meanwhile, he will continue to be remembered for his valuable contributions in the industry. 

“Presley’s achievements in this particular sector have played a very big role in inspiring quite a number of creatives in our province, but not only in our province but also outside our province,” said, Hendrick Motsileng, acting CEO of The Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sports Foundation in North West.
