Enhle Mbali apologises for using K-word – ‘My intention was never to demean anyone’

by Sergio Miller

Enhle Mbali has issued a public apology for a remark that has landed her in hot water on social media platforms.

The talented actress, best known for her work on Rhythm City, 7de Laan, and Pound 4 Pound, found herself being the subject of much online criticism after using the K-word during a public speech.

Enhle recently collaborated with beauty brand Carlton Hair, where she attended an event speaking about the challenges she has in maintaining her hair type.

While Enhle now alleges to have had no ill intentions, it was her reference to the term “k*ffir hare (Afrikaans translation of the word hair)” that had social media users feeling uneasy.

Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa has apologized for her comments during the launch of her partnership with Carlton Hair, where she referred to her hair as “kaffir hair”

“Listen, it’s the new South Africa and I’m
allowed to say this, neh. I’ve got k***r
hare. And the black people know… pic.twitter.com/8gcYnny8iN

This has since caused many to rush to public platforms demanding that the actress retract her comments.

In a recent video, she later extended her apology, while also highlighting how she assumed that black people would not be offended, given how comfortably they used the “N-word”.

According to TshisaLive in a video shared to her Instagram story, she said: “I’m posting this video to express my heartfelt apology for offending members of the South African community… I spoke in the language that we commonly used where I grew up. We rendered the k-word’s humiliation untrue. My intention was never to demean anyone.”

Others have, meanwhile, encouraged Carlton Hair to cancel its partnership with the actress, claiming that her remarks were racist and reckless.

Then Carlton must also cancel the partnership deal. Her comments were very racist and degrading but I know that a few have noticed because it’s a black woman who said.

That was very reckless, even if the intention was just humour
