Economy becoming crippling? Here are celebs who have started side hustles

Living a comfortable life in South Africa is often a tricky thing to do, this comes as the spike in inflation, rising prices of fuel, and continuous high electricity tariffs continue to make life in the country expensive.

For celebrities and sports athletes, this is very much the same. In the last few years, celebrities have therefore been proactive in ensuring that life does not get even harder should a rainy day come their way. This is because many people have now made the conscious decision to invest in a number of businesses so that they can live comfortably.

Let’s have a look at some celebrities who have invested in a side hustle.

Hacjivah Dayimani

After struggling to get himself back into the rugby scene during the pandemic, former Stormers and Racing92 rugby, Hacjivah Dayimani, received the wake-up call he needed to start planning for life after his rugby career. Speaking to former Springboks Rudy Paige and Juan De Jongh on their rugby podcast Behind the Ruck, he revealed that the fear of not knowing what he would do after retirement encouraged him to invest in his own sneaker brand called Hibacci. This has become a popular brand among many of his teammates and the current Springbok squad.

DJ Zintle

Being a mother to two beautiful girls is something that requires planning, and that is exactly what DJ Zintle did. While her primary job as a DJ has brought her loads of success, she has later ventured into jewellery with her brand called, Era by DJ Zintle.

This store specialises in the sales of watches, earrings, bracelets as well as charms for the bags.

DJ Shimza

When all fails, one thing to look after is one’s stomach, and that is exactly what award-winning musician DJ Shimza did when he opened a restaurant in his hometown of Thembisa, called The Hang Awt 1632 in 2020. To date, this has turned out to be a popular hotspot among locals and offers delicious cuisines, great music and loads of fun.
