After taking the country by storm during the 2024 general elections, things appear to be unravelling for Jacob Zuma’s Mkhonto Wesizwe Party. The political organisation has found itself amidst various controversies, with the latest involving Duduzile Zuma and Nhlamulo Ndhlela.

Five years after serving two terms as the President of South Africa as a loyal member of the African National Congress(ANC), Jacob Zuma took the country by storm when he revealed that he had founded the Mkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP), particularly considering how he had been fighting tooth and nail to maintain his ANC membership.

The MKP quickly established itself as a notable left-wing opposition party to the ANC, and have adopted a more socialist, zulu nationalist ideology. Despite Jacob Zuma being announced as ineligible to serve in parliament as a member of the MKP due to his fifteen-month prison sentence just one week before the general elections, the organisation made a successful debut, reiterating the former president’s immense popularity across the country.

The MKP garnered a total of 4,584,864 votes, which placed them in third position at 14.58% support, and had the public watching closely for what their next moves will be, as some were already looking at what the organisation can do in the upcoming 2028 elections.

“All that glitters is not gold” has been the theme for Msholozi’s organisation this year, as they have been embroiled in some scandals that have made a number of headlines, including the chaotic and unexpected demotion as Secretary General, as well as his choice of words and actions following this occurrence. Among other opinions, this had some members of the public concerned for the future of the MKP, as they revealed that they believe there is more chaos ensuing behind the scenes.

Recently, Jacob Zuma’s daughter and Member of the National Assembly Duduzile, as well as her fellow National Assembly member Nhlamulo have found themselves in the spotlight once again, and this time, their alleged disruptive behaviour during a meeting is the culprit.

In a letter addressed to the party’s leader, MKP’s spokesperson Dr John Hlophe, who has subsequently removed Nhlamulo from his position in the whippery, and slammed Duduzile, revealed that during a meeting held by the MKP, the duo carried themselves in what he deems an unruly manner, among other issues.

He accused both Nhlamulo and Duduzile of undermining the unity and collaboration that had been established in the whippery and the whole organisation, as well as creating division among the members.

Furthermore, MKP’s spokesperson revealed that Duduzile aggravated the situation even further when she began causing unnecessary disruptions, and failing to heed to cautionary calls from fellow members

“While I was speaking, Zuma-Sambudla interrupted me repeatedly, displaying unruly behaviour that required reprimanding. She noisily rose from her seat, grabbed her belongings, and exclaimed, “Are we not done?” before sitting down when she realised no one followed her,” said Hlophe, who added that the behaviour of both members was despicable and does not reflect the ethos that the MK Party seeks to portray to its constituents,” the letter reads.
