Drake pays a hefty price for betting against SA’s Dricus du Plessis

Canadian rapper Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham’s wallet took a big knock after Sunday morning’s UFC match between South African fighter Dricus du Plessis and the American Sean Strickland.

The match took place in Toronto, Canada, the hometown of the rapper. Here, the two fighters faced one another to see who would emerge supreme as the UFC middle-weight champion.

With Dricus being labelled the underdog, Drake seemed to have full confidence in the defending champion Sean, so much so that he was willing to bet a hefty $700 000 (R13 million) in favour of the former middle-weight champion.

The 37-year-old shared a picture of the slip on his Instagram story.

The decision was one that bit him sooner than later as it was the South African that came out victorious. The Pretoria-born fighter exited the area with the renowned song God’s Plan playing in the back ground.

Had the fight gone the way Drake had predicted, he would have earned himself R12.6 million in addition to his R13 million placed bet.

Reflecting on the momentous achievement, Dricus said that he was overwhelmed with emotion.

“It felt like 15 years of work, of dreaming and sacrifices, came together in that one single sentence,” he added after hearing his name being announced as champion.

Meanwhile, he later took to his social media accounts and thanked the supporters for their unwavering support.

“History has been made. This is Africa, we fear nothing and certainly no one!” he wrote.
