Family and friends of the late legendary actor, Don Mlangeni Nawa gathered in a tearful memorial service to share and cherish their moments and to celebrate his life at Soweto Theatre.

Spearheading the service was actress Dineo Langa, who worked with Don on S3’s The Estate shared with the mourners how he was a walking library.

“I got my chance with Bra Don at The Estate, we lost a library. You could go to Bra Don telling him you wanted to do something and he would give you a back story of his experiences in the early days. Give you context while encouraging you,” she said.

His industry colleagues who were present to honour him were Clementine Mosimane, Asavela Mngqithi, Krijay Govender, Keke Mphuthi and Magic Hlatshwayo among others.

Asavela was battling tears as she spoke about their relationship and how Don turned into a father figure and a friend to her since they met. She shared that they met at the audition and she was star-struck. They grew closer when they worked together at Abomama. Tearful Asavela also shared to the mourners that she recently introduced her daughter to Don, and she is glad that she went to see him not knowing that he will pass away a week later.

“During the most challenging times last year I called bab’ Don and he said I am here because you’ve been there for me when I needed you most. I’ll forever be grateful for his unwavering support. I’ve lost a friend and a father. Rest in peace bab Don,” she said
