DJ Warras Plays Detective (and Comedian) After Mogotsi Shooting
When news broke that controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi allegedly survived a shooting in Vosloorus, the South African internet wasted no time turning it into a guessing game. But few added as much drama—and humor—as DJ Warras, the Johannesburg DJ known for his witty commentary online.
On X, formerly Twitter, Warras, whose real name is Warrick Stock, shared a post that quickly went viral. He compared Mogotsi’s reported ordeal to a past incident in 2023 when community activist Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini’s Pimville home was petrol-bombed during a national shutdown protest. “Hahahaha! Okay, cool story bro—this one is looking like the ‘bomb’ that went off by Nhlanhla Lux’s house lol! Same hitmen,” Warras quipped.
The comment split audiences. Some found it hilarious, poking fun at Mogotsi’s larger-than-life online persona, while others felt the DJ downplayed what could have been a serious life-threatening incident.
Social media users joined the conversation with their own playful takes. “Lux catching strays,” one joked, referencing Dlamini’s past ordeal. Another chimed in, “Nhlanhla Lux walked so Brown Mogotsi could run,” while a third reminded Mogotsi critics: “At least Lux doesn’t go around asking for tenders on podcasts. Relax!”
Hahahaha! 😂😂

The Shooting That Had Vosloorus Talking
Mogotsi, a figure known for outspoken online commentary and political connections, claimed to have survived an alleged assassination attempt on the night of Monday, November 3, 2025. His bright red Chevrolet sedan was riddled with approximately 11 bullets, windows shattered, yet Mogotsi reportedly walked away unharmed.
The bizarre juxtaposition of a bullet-riddled car and an unharmed Mogotsi has led some social media users to speculate that the attack may have been staged. Others expressed relief that no one was seriously injured.
SAPS Responds: Investigation Underway
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed an investigation into the incident, stressing the importance of taking such events seriously. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said, “Absolutely, that is defeating the ends of justice. If we are pulling out police resources, mobilising experts, members of Visible Policing and detectives to attend to a particular crime scene, that is a diversion of resources. If we do find out that this was staged, we will take action. We have not made that determination yet. We are still investigating and hoping this was genuine.”
A Snapshot of South African Internet Culture
The incident highlights a uniquely South African online culture: the blending of real-world violence with satire, political commentary, and social media humor. DJs, influencers, and citizens alike often step into the role of “armchair detectives,” offering playful or biting commentary on serious events. Warras’ humorous take is just the latest example of this trend, showing how the public navigates news, skepticism, and entertainment in one continuous scroll.
As the investigation continues, Vosloorus residents and online communities are left watching, joking, and debating whether this shooting was an actual attempt on Mogotsi’s life or just another viral story in South Africa’s colourful, sometimes chaotic news cycle.
