Putting minds at ease, Lebogang Naves, better known as DJ Naves, set the record straight after he shared the real reason for leaving Metro FM.

The deejay first announced the plans for his departure from the popular radio station on 11 January. “My chapter at Metro FM ends on 27 January 2024. I’m so thankful for the experiences, opportunities, and the incredible people I’ve worked with – some of whom have become lifelong friends,” he wrote on his social media.

“Change is always there and it’s time. I’m not scared of it. It’s a new start, a chance to learn, and a time to create on a fresh slate.”

Revealing to the publication ZiMoja his reasons for his departure, DJ Naves shared he left on his terms and had a lengthy discussion with his deejaying buddy SPHEctacula (real name Sphe Ngwenya). “I resigned. I am growing. I needed a new challenge, and new adventures, I was feeling stagnant. I have the podcast I am doing with Mamelodi Sundowns. We realised we had to be smart in how we do business.”

DJ Naves and SPHEctacula are known for being the deejaying duo dubbed Kings of the Weekend on Metro FM. Although DJ Naves had left, SPHEctacula shared that he wanted people to also get used to them being separate entities.

SPHEctacula said, “Yes, we make music, deejay, and produce together, but we also have other ventures going separate from Kings Of The Weekend and we want people to get used to that.”
