South African DJ and record producer DJ Maphorisa supported local brand Galxboy by spending nearly R100k during a shopping spree.

Thatiso Dube founded the South African streetwear brand, which captures the rebellious youth street culture with inventive designs based on modern-day African design philosophy.

DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sekowe, took to Instagram to share pictures of him at the store where he brought items worth nearly R100k. He also captioned, “Local is lekker @galaxyboy_sa.”

The record producer is known to wear a lot of luxury brands on his socials and will be rocking his new Galxyboy merchandise.

In an interview with SA HIPHOP MAG, the founder credited AKA’s mention of the Galxyboy brand in his song Lemonade, where he says, “Star signs, pull up and shine at Nostra GALXBOY, that’s culture,” for the brand’s growth. Today, the Galxyboy brand has nine shops across South Africa and is a cultural icon.

Many Instagram users applauded the record producer for supporting local brands.

One user said, “You bought the whole store.”

Another user referred to the late rapper’s lyric saying, “Galxyboy that’s culture.”
One user commented: “People saying the math is not matching, I’m judging y’all. I’m judging you all very hard. How did you all expect all the items to appear on this screenshot?”
One user joked about the time the DJ said that whatever was recorded at his studio belonged to him saying, “Jiki jiki I bought you Galxyboy, therefore, your album is mine.”
