Radio DJ and podcaster, DJ Fresh, recently received backlash from online users for his speech at his late ex-wife’s funeral, Thabiso Sikwane.

DJ Fresh, whose real name is Thato Sikwane, was married to Thabiso for 20 years after announcing their divorce in 2022. As internet users and industry friends mourn the passing of Thabiso, it seems users felt that her ex-husband’s speech was uncalled for.

Speaking at Thabiso’s funeral, DJ Fresh took the opportunity to publicly apologise to her for the heartache he caused her whilst they were married.

He said, “The only thing I owe her that was meant to be delivered last week when we recorded the podcast, was an apology in public for the heartache I had caused her. That was the point of that podcast a public apology for any heartbreak, heartache, or embarrassment, in people’s eyes that I caused you. I apologised to you and the children, but it was not complete until it was done in public. I’m sorry, my friend.”

This apology seemed not to be received well as many internet users continued to blame the DJ for his ex-wife’s departure, with some saying that the divorce could have impacted her mental health badly.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) users shared their thoughts on videos of the DJ speaking at the funeral.

One user commented:

There’s something off about how Thato (DJ Fresh) is so free to is not even wearing a jacket… something is hectically off about this!!! Thabiso Sikwane is resting shame, this man looks problematic. I can’t put it in full sentences! https://t.co/HCmKIHODc8

Another user added:

DJ Fresh pulled a Chidimma at his ex ‘s funeral.

He didn’t wait nyana a year and a couple of other people vouching that he can then now speak, he decided that podcast was enough to quickly justify the unnecessary degrading condescending rushed eulogy.

One X user said:

DJ FRESH has been in public all his life yet he chose to give his ex wife a “public apology” as she laid in her coffin ??#RipThabisoSikwane #ThabisoSikwane
