One of South Africa’s proudest exports Nkosinathi ‘Black Coffee’ Maphumulo continues to make big strides in the world as he takes his international music to the next level.

The 47-year-old was recently invited as a guest lecturer at the prestigious Harvard University.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the Durban-born DJ shared how much the opportunity meant to him.

In the post that includes multiple pictures, the Grammy award winning DJ can be seen proudly standing in front of a sign that reads “Harvard Business school.” He is also later seen in a picture with a group of students joyfully smiling towards the camera.

He wrote: “So yesterday before my dj-ing gig I gave a lecture at @HarvardUniv with Prof @anitaelberse What a humbling experience.”

Earlier this month he also made history by becoming the first-ever South African to both headline and sell out the popular entertainment venue, Madison Square Garden in New York.

The venue is well known for being host to some top performers in the music industry including Elvis Presley, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and several others.

The achievement was so momentous that President Cyril Ramaphosa congratulated our local talent via X.

“Congratulations to Black Coffee for being the first South African DJ to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York City, USA to a sold-out show this past Saturday.

“South African artists continue to distinguish themselves and promote our talents on the global stage. We thank you for flying the National Flag!” was what the President wrote.

Meanwhile, after sharing his Harvard experience, fans entered the comment section with lots of praises.

One anticipated that he would one day receive an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the art of music.
