Comedian David Kau recently found himself eating humble pie after a heated exchange with Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie on social media.
David had initially taken a confrontational approach when requesting a meeting with Gayton, which led to a public back-and-forth. However, David has since issued a public apology, acknowledging his mistake.
In his latest post, David expressed his regret, stating: “Dear Minister @GaytonMcK, I apologise unreservedly to you. I could have and should have used a better approach to bring whatever issues the comedy industry is facing and follow the right channels.”

The spat began last week when David, frustrated by a lack of response, publicly asked to meet Gayton, questioning whether stand-up comedians needed to be “in the Olympics or die” to get his attention.

Gayton, known for his swift actions, countered by providing evidence of previous efforts to address comedian-related matters. He responded: “… I can’t have you insinuating that I don’t care about comedians, your approach bro.”

David, not backing down, mentioned his prior attempts to reach out to both Gayton and the former minister, Zizi Kodwa.
I would love to engage you all but the Minister or his spokesperson and department will reply. Minister Zizi met with everyone in art n culture except the Comedy sector.
