Cwecwe’s Mom defends child after man opens foundation about Cwecwe without their knowledge

by Silindokuhle Booi

Cwecwe’s story is a very sensitive one, and people seem to be taking advantage of that. I have watched people make songs and label them as “justice for Cwecwe”, which I feel is rather inappropriate. We cannot use the story to our benefit.

The parents of the seven-year-old recently took to Facebook to share that someone opened an organisation without telling them. In a lengthy post, she shared screenshots of the conversations with the person. The caption of the post said that as the grieving parents of Cwecwe said, they were addressing a distressing situation where an individual named Mehmet claimed to represent a foundation in their daughter’s name without their consent.

They wanted to clarify that Mehmet had no right to establish a foundation using Cwecwe’s name without their approval. They stated that they would file a complaint with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission if the foundation was registered without their consent.

The parents expressed their rejection of any attempts to solicit funds using Cwecwe’s name and legacy for profit. They revealed they were in the process of registering an official foundation in Cwecwe’s name and would communicate updates through their social media platforms.

They urged the public not to support any other foundations claiming to represent Cwecwe and to stand with them in protecting their daughter’s name and legacy from exploitation.

The parents appealed to Mehmet to cease his actions and to the public to help them put an end to these exploitative practices. They asserted that Cwecwe’s name was their intellectual property and that they would fiercely protect it from those who sought to benefit financially from her identity.
