It is said one of the qualities of a good teacher is being able to talk to learners respectfully while being in full control of your emotions.

However, a recent report by news publication, News24, revealed that a teacher from Curro, the leading independent school network in South Africa was fired after she said a learner should stop laughing like an idiot.

This caused a stir on X (an app formerly known as Twitter) with a lot of people defending the teacher saying there was no need for her should be fired. Others requested to be told the full story.

One user wrote, “And the sad part is that they say the said student is unruly and arrogant and she was just making noise laughing while the teacher was busy. I’m sorry teacher.”

Other users said:

Isn’t this a figure of speech known as a simile, comparing the way someone is laughing to a simile, using the word “like”?

Did we become this sensitive? This woke culture is gonna be the end of us.we were told how dumb we were and we joined the laughter with the rest of the class. Firing the teacher was a bit extreme.
