South African musician Credo V Daniels has responded to claims that artificial intelligence (AI) is responsible for the quality of his music, saying the criticism overlooks the creativity and effort involved in producing a song.

The artist, who recently found himself trending after a live television performance sparked debate on social media, said many people misunderstand how AI is used in modern music production.
He has previously addressed backlash in a now-deleted Instagram post, writing: “Yeah, I missed a note, it happens live. On to the next show.”
As reported by Daily Sun, while some online users questioned whether his recorded vocals were AI-generated, Credo maintains that his music is the result of years of experience and artistic work.
Quoted by the aforementioned publication, he said, “I feel like people just throw around the word Al, but they don’t really know what goes into making music.”
AI supports creativity; it doesn’t replace it
According to Credo, creating music involves far more than simply using technology. Writing lyrics, composing melodies, recording vocals and producing a final track all require skill and creative input. He believes AI can assist musicians during the creative process, but it cannot replace human talent, emotion and originality.
The musician acknowledged that he uses AI in certain aspects of his workflow, describing it as another tool available to artists rather than the driving force behind his music. He also raised concerns about the ethical use of AI, particularly when existing creative works are used without permission.
“The problem is when they use AI, they’re taking an existing piece of work without a person’s consent and using it. That’s where the problem actually comes in,” he said.

Staying focused on the music
Credo says technological advances have made music production more accessible, allowing artists to experiment with ideas from almost anywhere, including on their smartphones, before completing professional recordings.
Despite the criticism surrounding his recent performance, he remains focused on creating music that resonates with listeners. For Credo, the most important measure of success is whether audiences connect with the finished song.
