Being able to laugh and be positive can often be the best feeling in the world but for comedian and actress Celeste Ntuli, the art of comedy means so much more.

Celeste’s passion to pursue a comedy career stemmed from absorbing the talents of American stand-up comedian and actor, Richard Pryor. She told BONA, “I watched the videotape of Richard and I was sold. I loved everything about it. I knew I wanted to do that.” Her passion allowed her to make a name for herself when she hosted numerous shows across mzansi and became the first local female comic to record a one-woman show DVD.

To achieve success, it is always a great idea to express individuality in a field filled with talented and hilarious individuals. Speaking about her unique comedic style, Celeste described herself as being a storyteller.

She said, “My comedy is poking at real issues that everybody in a society can relate to, regardless of our differences,” while also stating, “Comedy for me is healing. That is what it does to me.”

Celeste’s drive for the arts has also afforded her to showcase her comedic talents on a global scale as she is one of 10 local celebrities to partake in Prime Video’s first South Africa Original unscripted comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing with Trevor Noah as the show’s host.

Celeste shared, “The last time I worked with Trevor was back in 2009/10 at a comedy show I was hosting in Durban. Working with Trevor now felt a whole different. His growth is felt by his energy. I felt my career and my life changing just by sitting next to him. He was kind, funny and really amazing. I was inspired.”
