Collen Mashawana Foundation disappointed by halt in Nelson Mandela’s house renovations

by Staff Bona

The Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) has expressed deep disappointment at the sudden halt in renovations at the Nelson Mandela House in Houghton. The project, which holds great significance for the foundation, aims to restore the iconic leader’s home and preserve a vital piece of South Africa’s history and heritage.

Importance of the Project

This project is incredibly important to CMF, as it represents a tribute to one of South Africa’s greatest leaders and a significant step towards preserving the nation’s history and heritage.

The project aligns with CMF’s values of social development, historical preservation, and promoting educational and cultural values inspired by Mandela’s life and work. The foundation believes that collaboration and understanding will enable the continuation of this important work, transforming the site into a beacon of inspiration for future generations.

Reason for Embarking on the Project

CMF received a request from the Mandela House to assist in renovating the property, which aligns with the foundation’s mission and values.

Project Progress

Before the halt in renovations, CMF had made significant progress, including:

– Repairing the cracked wall on the side of the garage – Patching the pool
– Addressing water damage in the garage
– Cleaning gutters

– Draining and cleaning the pool
– Demolishing damaged walls in the kitchen
– Removing the damaged ceiling outside the cottages – Replacing the ceiling with a new roundtable ceiling

The CMF remains committed to the project and looks forward to resolving the current impasse. The foundation’s goal is to ensure that the site is restored and maintained in a manner that honors Nelson Mandela’s legacy and serves the community.

“This project means a great deal to us, reflecting our commitment to social development, historical preservation and promotion of educational and cultural values inspired by Mandela’s life and work. We believe that, through collaboration and understanding, we can continue this important work and ensure that the site becomes a beacon of inspiration for future generations. Moving forward, we hope to engage in a constructive dialogue with all stakeholders to address any concerns and find mutually beneficial resolution. Our goal is to ensure that this important site is restored and maintained in a manner that honours Nelson Mandela’s legacy and serves the community.” citied COO of CMF Austin Mashawana.
