December is around the corner and Breezy fans have rushed to buy their tickets for his two-day concert, but are gender-based violence (GBV) victim’s petition against the artist coming to South Africa falling on deaf ears?
Chris Brown recently took to his socials to announce his world tour to the ‘motherland’ but it seems that some internet users are advocating against him performing in the country due to his abusive behaviour.
Earlier this week, the well-known South African GBV page, Women for Change demanded that the Department of Home Affairs revoke his visa from coming to South Africa causing fans and GBV activists to be divided.
According to news publication, IOL, in a matter of days the petition has reached 10 000 signatures from its 15 000 target.
During an interview with Newzroom Afrika, Bulelwa Adonis, the Women For Change spokesperson, spoke on the reasons behind this initiative saying, “In this case, the fact that he obtained a visa to our country and the looseness in our system to allow him the accessibility to us. Considering how dire this pandemic is in our country, it is distressing and disheartening, to say the least.”
The page posted the petition on all platforms and here’s what X (formerly known as Twitter) users had to say:
