Chiefs founder Kaizer Motuang ready to retire

by Sergio Miller

After getting his name written in the South African history books, Kaizer Motaung – founder of one of South Africa’s greatest football teams, Kaizer Chiefs, has hinted that his journey with the club is drawing to a close.

The veteran footballer who founded the Soweto giants was recently inducted to the South African Hall of Fame, where his name was written in the history books alongside many other influential people like Nelson Mandela and Joost van der Westhuizen.

Reports by news publications Briefly News and The South African claim that Kaizer recently had lunch with some club legends and the media at the FNB stadium in which he revealed news that he will be taking a step back and hand over the operational duties to his son, Kaizer Motuang Jnr.

In his speech he was said:

“I believe what my son said makes sense because I have now given over the baton to them to continue the journey, so it is the responsibility on their shoulders.”

Ever since its establishment Kaizer Chiefs has achieved lots of success by winning tons of silverware and producing top international talents over the years. Despite this, Kaizer believes that the future of the club will be in good hands and supports those who will be taking the club further.

“And I can only stand on the wayside and support them in whatever way they would like to do, to support their initiative to ensure that this brand continues to grow by leaps and bounds,” he added.

Furthermore, no official date has yet been confirmed on when he will step down.
