Renowned musician and producer Sello “Chicco” Twala’s sons, Longwe and Sello Twala, were arrested over the weekend for theft.
A case was opened at the Douglasdale Police Station in Fourways, Johannesburg, and the two are set to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, according to City Press.
Chicco revealed to Sunday World that his sons allegedly colluded to steal equipment worth thousands of rands from his studio while he was abroad in the United States.
He further claimed that this wasn’t the first time they had stolen from him, accusing them of being long-time offenders.
In a strongly worded statement, Chicco alleged that his son Longwe, under the influence of drugs, scaled the fence, broke into the studio, and took the valuable equipment.
Expressing his frustration, Chicco stated that he had reached his limit and was no longer concerned about the negative publicity that might come from publicly exposing his son’s alleged actions.
Adding further complexity, Longwe Twala has also been implicated in the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
The former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was tragically shot during an alleged botched robbery at Kelly Khumalo’s mother’s home in Vosloosrus, east of Johannesburg, on October 26, 2014.
Longwe, who was dating award-winning singer Kelly’s sister Zandie Khumalo, has been linked to the case by the defence. The trial is ongoing at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
