The Cape Town Jazz Festival is set to make its return in May with a lineup that promises to keep music lovers entertained for the weekend after its 2023 cancellation. The jazz spectacle is set to run from the 3rd to the 4th of May at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The lineup for this year’s event consists of some of the biggest names in the jazz music industry.

In 2020, the event organisers had to cancel this massive jazz event that saw people from all parts of South Africa and abroad gathering in Cape Town for two or more days due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The festival which was previously known as the North Sea Jazz Festival before parting ways with the North Sea, is one of the major events that boosts the Mother City’s tourism.

It was said in a statement that the festival was cancelled due to “A series of unavoidable delays and unforeseen challenges, as well as uncertainties around the future of load shedding, all of which had negatively impacted the planning.”

This year’s line-up includes local stars Mandisi Dyantyi, Zoe Modiga, and Nduduzo Makhathini, a trio featuring Omagugu, Radio Sechaba, Billy Monama, Carlo Mombelli & The Prisoners of Strange, Benjamin Jephta presents “Born coloured, not Born- Free”, and Kujega.

International acts include the UK’s The Yussef Dayes Experience and Matt Bianco.

The ticket passes for Friday the 3rd of May and Saturday the 4th are priced at R950 each. With a theme called ‘reset-connect’, the festival will surely be a reconnection for all jazz music lovers who missed the two-day spectacle due to the global pandemic.
