While thousands of South Africans are still grappling with the news that SABC’s popular soap opera Muvhango has come to an end, the memories of life on set are something that will forever linger in the heart of one of the show’s actors Buhle Samuels.

In a recent interview, the actress took time to reflect on her time on the well-known soapie, describing its ending as being somewhat “bitter-sweet.”

Buhle a prominent figure in the drama industry made her come back to this year, portraying the role of Matshidiso.

In her interview with the news and entertainment publication Sunday World, she said:

“It has been such a beautiful process. It gave birth to my career. I love them so much and I am so grateful to be part of the show at the various stages.”

“I hope that we have entertained people at home.”

The cause of the show’s ending is said to be because production having run out of episodes. It is further reported that there have been no new contracts or contract extensions.

While the sudden stop has been met with shock from loyal viewers, the SABC has vowed to take viewers down a trip of memory lane by re-airing the show from season 1.

This is said to be done in commemoration of 30-years of democracy – and to give viewers who have not seen the show since the very start, an opportunity to do so.

Muvhango has been on SA screens since 1997 and lasted 25 seasons. This is only the second longest running show that came to an end in the past year. The first being the multi-SAFTA award-winning soapie 7de Laan which came to an end in December 2023.
