Former Mamelodi Sundowns fan-favourite Bongani Zungu has shocked the diski world as it was revealed that the midfielder has found a new home with AmaZulu F.C.

After being released by the Brazilians earlier this due to what some of the club’s legends believe was refusal or inability to put in the work to become a top competitor after returning from London club Queens Park Rangers. According to Bennet Mnguni, Bongani left as a polished, hardworking player, and came back without the same drive.

Looking for a fresh start in the upcoming year, the midfielder has joined forces with AmaZulu, hoping to add some much-needed experience to the young team that has shown some spurts of great potential to improve in the league.

Bongani and AmaZulu’s coaching and management staff are hoping his comfortability with winning culture will rub off on the rest of the team. He revealed that one of his goals it to win significant silverware for his new club, as he has done at every other club, he has formed part of. Furthermore, he is thrilled to be coached by savvy minds such as coach Arthur Zwane Siboniso Vilakazi.

“Everywhere I’ve played, I’ve managed to win trophies, and I want to bring that same winning mentality here. I know what it takes to win, and that’s my aim. I’m also thrilled to be coached by Zwane and Vilakazi. I’ve watched AmaZulu’s games, and the team plays the modern game. My understanding of the game will help the team, but I know I have to work hard to earn my place,” he says.

Although the news is welcomed by the club’s fans, watchers of the sport have questioned why Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs did not secure Bongani, who would have been a great addition to the team who is in desperate need of his skills due to consistent poor performances.

It is in sane to think that Chiefs failed to sign Bongani Zungu on a free transfer. They need a player of his quality and experience to bolster the likes of young Zwane.
