On an episode of Behind the Story, Brenda Fassie’s son, Bongani Fassie, opened up to the show’s presenter Jessica Nomalanga Shozi about his failed suicide attempts.

In the episode, the show’s host and Bongani Fassie were talking heart to heart while driving. Bongani confided in Jessica that both his heart and intellect had not been in the right place. He claimed that whether he used drugs or not, things appeared to remain the same. He then admitted that he had attempted suicide before but had failed each time.

“My mind wasn’t in a good place, my heart wasn’t in a good place and I tried to commit suicide…not once, I failed twice [and] I failed thrice [three times],” Bongani said.

Bongani then added that his attempt at suicide had been particularly unpleasant because he had chosen to kill himself by poisoning himself and ingesting detergents. He then admitted that he felt alone and that his friends didn’t understand what he had been going through at the time.

“I was supposed to be dead long ago. You know, if my brothers or my so-called friends knew or could just give me time to explain myself, instead of trying to side with some other people,” he said.

According to the South African and IOL, Bongani revealed that he had spent R 4 million on narcotics alone and before he knew it, he was broke.

All the best to Bongani, and we hope that he will get better emotionally and kick life in the face.
