Excitement has saturated the air as Springbok fans all over the country are dusting off their green and gold supporters’ jerseys to stand united behind our national rugby team.
While most may be divided on who they support when it comes to the Bulls, Sharks, Lions, and Stormers, the international season is often considered to be one of the rare occasions where local rugby fans stand as one.
With passion and pride being the front-running characteristics of who we are as supporters, the build-up to kick off is usually one filled with hype and excitement. So much so that we have decided to come up with a day entirely dedicated to the World Champions – called Bok Friday.
As the Boks gear up to face the Babarians this Saturday, we have a few useful tips on how you can make the most of your Bok Friday in preparation for the big day.
Here are some essential things needed:
Biltong & Droewors
These traditional dried meat snacks have for years been an essential part of who we are as a nation. It is the perfect pre-braai snack, is rich in protein and perfectly complements a social setting.

Tjops
A “tjop”, the slang word for meat chop, is often considered as one of the main ingredients at any South African braai, along with a good piece of steak, chicken, and sausage. Once served with some chakalaka and potato salad, you are guaranteed to have yourself a winning recipe.

Braai Boodjie
As with biltong and droewors, a braai broodjie is an essential part of the traditional South African experience. It is made on an open fire, using two slices of bread and saturating it with a variety of fillings like onions, tomato, chutney, pepper, biltong, or any other option you may prefer, and topping it off with the main ingredient – cheese.
Springbok attire
No match-day build-up can begin until you are fully prepared to prove where your loyalty lies, and a Springbok jersey, cap, bucket hat, scarf or even South African flag is all you need to top everything off.
