Grammy-award winner and the first South African to headline a sold-out concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Nkosinathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo, has teamed up with premium clothing brand Amiri, recently opening their first store in Johannesburg.

Amiri is a luxury international brand owned by designer Mike Amiri. The new South Arican Amiri store is located at Sandton City’s Diamond. A pair of jeans at this luxurious store will set you back anywhere between R14 000 and R33 000.

According to information hub youthvillage, Themba Nkosi, also known as Euphonic, is also part of the business.

Shared by the above-mentioned information hub, Black Coffee was quoted at the launch saying:

“In music, beats harmonise; in fashion, style resonates. Collaborating with Amiri brings rhythm to couture, merging the pulse of sound with the allure of design, creating a symphony of style and substance. The opening of the store in South Africa is massive for the team and we are honoured to share it with everyone today.”

Black Coffee and Amiri recently worked together to design the jacket that the Superman hitmaker wore on the night of his New York-headlined show. The jacket had three significant female figures embroidered on it.

In a video shared on his social media, Black Coffee explained who the three figures were, and their significance in his life. He shared:

“For me, this is such an important piece because I am literally carrying my people to Madison Square Garden.”

On the jacket, there are three women – one Zulu woman (paternal grandmother) and two Xhosa women (his grandmother and mother). “The one in the middle is younger, that being my mother. Being who I am in the family, I wanted to preserve the history of our family.”

The We Dance hitmaker continued: “The people that carried me, the people that raised me, I am literally bringing them to witness the biggest moment of my life right now.”

Some of the people who attended the opening of the Sandton Amiri store shared posts on their social media:
