Big Brother star Yolanda dealt with fame’s harsh realities

Even though the former Big Brother Mzansi housemate of s’yamosha season, Eulanda ‘Yolanda’ Monyai left the house on unpleasant terms, she scored a fanbase that rallied behind her all the way; with her flamboyance and being outspoken working in her favour.

The Limpopo-born model who was recently chosen to be an ambassador with four other former housemates for M-Net’s local channels: Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu, Mzansi Magic Music and channel O; has recently stated that fame is not what she thought it would be.

In an interview with the entertainment publication, Daily Sun, Yolanda revealed that fame was not as glamorous as she had imagined.

“It’s a job and a half. I used to think I liked being famous or would love to be famous. When things are far from you, you think it’s easy, but fame is a little bit hard, if you are starting. You get into the house and five people know you and when you come out 100 people know you.

The 32-year-old told the publication that most people expect to see the same Yolanda they saw on TV.

“Sometimes, it’s not possible if you had a long day, maybe you had a gig, and they say they want to take pictures with you and then drop you. After you’ve had that moment of disappointment you meet someone who wants to see you smile. I don’t think people understand, but I don’t blame them. I can’t say they must understand because they were not with me. This is a job for me and every time I’m with them, I’ll smile, it’s just difficult,” she said.

Speaking to IOL about her disqualification, Yolanda said, “My disqualification taught me that it’s very important to understand things before you say them. You can’t just say them because they could cost you R2 million and also it’s very important to know exactly what it is that you are saying. In my case, I didn’t have a clear understanding of the word that I uttered, which led to my disqualification.”
