BET Africa set to honour this 2025 BET Award nominees

With just weeks to go until black artists get recognised for their creativity at this year’s annual BET Awards ceremony, South African nominees will soon be in for a treat. 

This comes after BET Africa, in collaboration with Durban Tourism, is set to roll out the red carpet to honour some of mzansi’s nominees with multiple exclusive parties ahead of their departure to Los Angeles. 

When it comes to the local music landscape, one this certain, South Africans understand rhythm. This year, the country boasts multiple nominees in the form of Tyla, Maglera Doe Boy, and DJ Uncle Waffels. 

According to the news publication, IOL, the festivities are set to kick off on 22 May at the LIV Durban, while a follow-up show will be hosted in Johannesburg’s LIV Sandton on the 29th May. 

A competition will also be run to send two lucky fans on an all-expenses-paid trip to experience the splendour of Durban, courtesy of BET Africa and Durban Tourism. 

Speaking to the above-mentioned publication, Monde Twala, senior vice president and co-general manager of Paramount Africa and lead of BET International, expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting how important the collaboration was for them to shine a spotlight on uplifting homegrown talent. 

“The BET Awards celebration parties will highlight cultural pride, artistic excellence, and the vibrant spirit of Durban and South Africa as a whole.” 

Meanwhile, eThekwini city manager Musa Mbhele added that they were proud to have fans connect with their favourite artists. 

The awards ceremony is set to take place on 9 June in Los Angeles.
