It was a joyous celebration recently as the Mgubes and Mokopos celebrated popular traditional healer Makgotso Lee-Anne Mokopo also known as Gogo Maweni’s umembeso recently.

Umembeso is a Zulu traditional ceremony that forms part of the lobola negotiations, where the groom gifts the bride’s family items such as blankets, money and many other things before the wedding.

Gogo Maweni and fellow traditional healer husband Sabelo “Velabahleke” Mgube have been together for many years. Sometime last year, it was reported that the popular traditional healers were engaged and that Sabelo had paid the bride price of R150k.

The Thokoza Gogo reality TV star later confirmed the bride price paid by her husband Sabelo to the popular blog Maphephandaba, adding that he would return to finish off her family’s request, “It was 150K but there’s still cows remaining which will be paid out before the wedding,” said Maweni.

Celebrating her umembeso, the mother of three shared a picture of herself with some of her gifts in the form of cash pinned on her head doek, blankets and a makoti dress (dress worn by new brides).

She captioned her post, ” Yesterday was definitely a day to remember. My family, in-laws and friends, siyabonga (we are thankful).”
