Basetsana celebrates son stepping into teenage journey

by Sergio Miller

It seems the celebrations never come to an end in the Kumalo household, when they are not commemorating an important life milestone, then they are honouring one another on their birthdays.

This was exactly the case this week when the former Miss South Africa and media personality, Basetsana Kumalo, took to social media to celebrate the birthday of her son Kgositsile as he officially stepped into his teenage journey.

The 13-year-old is one of three children that the former Top Billing presenter shares with her husband, Romeo, and while she has been down this road before, the journey of witnessing her children mature remains special to both of them.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Bassie, as she is affectionately referred to, penned a heartfelt note to her youngest, highlighting his resilient traits that have gotten him to this point.

“On this day, 13 years ago, our family was blessed with a beautiful gift, the gift of your life, my son. You came at 34 weeks, and I knew that a brave heart was born. You were determined to fight and live. Your names are a full representation and embodiment of who you are, uShaka Kgositsile Emmanuel.

“Watching you grow has been the joy of my life. Your bravery and resilience in life are a marvel to witness. Your quirkiness and wit are delightful, you are kind and considerate, you are generous with your love and affection, you have a presence and greatness imbued. You are smart and methodical, and your sense of humour is top tier.”

She emphasised that while the new phase of his life may come with various challenges, it is important to note that they are all part of growth. Her only prayer is for him to continue walking in his God given destiny.

“May goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life. Happy birthday, King! Mbulaz’omnyama! Your tribe loves you very much.”
