Bail denied: Shebeshxt to spend Christmas in custody

by Zintle Mdaka

Popular Lekompo rapper Lehlogonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, will spend the festive season behind bars after his bail was denied at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

This is after the Dilo Tse Massive rapper made his appearance in court on Wednesday, where magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi denied his bail application and postponed the matter to February, 2026.

The verdict came weeks after the intense legal arguments between the state and the defence. The Citizen reported that the court ruled that Shebeshxt had failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances. These would have justified his release on bail, a key requirement in cases of this nature.

Shebeshxt faces nine serious charges, including three counts of attempted murder.

His arrest followed a shooting incident in Ladanna, Polokwane, in which two men were shot. One of the victims remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Testifying in court then, Warrant Officer Phaladi Makola said that the man which Shebeshxt allegedly shot on October 19 is still in hospital.

“The firearm used in this matter has not yet been recovered, but they have obtained the bullet or projectile, which has been sent to ballistics for investigation. The investigation into that ballistic report (is still pending),” he said.

Phaladi said one of the attempted murder cases Shebeshxt is facing relates to an incident that happened in Seshego at a music concert.

“It is reported that the victim tried to greet Shebeshxt, a firearm was produced, and he was shot at. The firearm used was never recovered. On the day of this occurrence, Chauke was with a certain Thabiso Malatjie.”
