Ashley Ogle Opens Up About Her Breakup With Sweet Guluva: “I Am Still in Love With Him”

by Zaghrah Anthony

Heartbreak After Reality TV Romance

Fans of Big Brother Mzansi were shocked to learn that season 5 winner Akhonamathemba Mbele, better known as Sweet Guluva, and former contestant Ashley Ogle have ended their high-profile romance. The breakup was confirmed by Ogle herself during a candid episode of Lasizwe’s YouTube show Drink or Tell the Truth.

“Sweet Guluva broke up with me. I was forced to go with it. I’m a fan of Sweet Guluva, and I was in love with him. I would still say I am in love with him, but I don’t particularly like Akhonamathemba,” Ogle revealed.

She explained that while Sweet Guluva had genuine feelings for her, the side of him tied to his public persona, Akhonamathemba, didn’t share the same connection.

A Breakup That Came Out of the Blue

For Ogle, the split was unexpected.

“Usually, you can see something coming. For me, it was a surprise. It’s been a month and a bit. I had to force myself to find the reason he had done what he did. I don’t even recall the reason; I think it was pretty much invalid. He said he’s working. To me, it seemed as if Akhonamathemba never had plans for Ashley Ogle — it was just Sweet Guluva who had plans for Ashley.”

Her words reflect the confusing duality of dating someone who is both a reality TV star and a private individual—something South African fans have followed with fascination since the couple’s time on the show.

Addressing Rumors

Their relationship, which began during season 5 of Big Brother Mzansi, was not without speculation. Rumors circulated that the couple was expecting their first child. Ogle quickly dispelled these claims in an interview with The Citizen, stating:

“I did not sleep with Sweet Guluva on TV. I did not have any sexual encounters. So, I’m not pregnant.”

Fans seemed relieved by her clarification, but the rumors highlighted the intense scrutiny reality TV stars face, particularly in South Africa’s ever-engaged social media landscape.

Looking Forward: Career and Creativity

Despite the heartbreak, Ogle is setting her sights on her future. She shared plans to focus on her career in the beauty, fashion, and media industries, as well as her passion for acting and writing.

“I will also be pursuing writing, whether it be for TV shows or music, and definitely fashion and hair. People have seen me with my weaves, so definitely hair,” she said.

Her post-Big Brother ambitions show a determination to carve out her own space beyond the reality TV spotlight, something many fans admire as a sign of resilience.

A Love That Left Its Mark

While the breakup is a personal loss, Ogle’s openness has resonated with fans. Many have expressed empathy on social media, noting the challenges of navigating romance in the public eye. Her honesty about still being in love, yet needing to move forward, underscores the complicated nature of relationships formed under intense public scrutiny.

For now, Ashley Ogle is charting her own path, honoring what she had with Sweet Guluva, addressing rumors head-on, and looking ahead to new creative opportunities.
