Artist gifts Chris Brown fine art portrait, while Rasta gains mixed reactions

The return of American singer Chris Brown for his 11:11 concert in Johannesburg has been welcomed with much excitement despite previous uproar from those advocating against Gender-Based Violence.

This past weekend the FNB Stadium was filled in to capacity as people from all over the country as well as our neighbouring countries all flocked to the stadium to witness the talent that is Chris Brown live in action performing some of his greatest hits.

Many took to social media expressing how in awe they were with the experience that included a diverse mix of singing, dancing, theatrics, fireworks, as well as a trip down memory lane where he performed some of his earliest hits creating a sense of nostalgia which touched the hearts of some of his die heart fans.

While Chris’ soul mission was to deliver a performance worthy of the occasion, others meanwhile, attended the concert to pay respects to the headliner himself for the entertainment that he has provided throughout the years in the industry.

Among these, was local artist Sandile Kgaphola. The artist who is best known on Instagram by his handle SK Original, is well known for his artistic talents and specialises in the creation of rugs as well as has his hand made cracked glass portraits in which he meticulously shatters glass to create an image of some of the most well-known celebrities.

Among some of the well-known people he has gifted a portrait included Gayton McKenzie, Kabza De Small, Sjava, The Rock as well as Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.

Since the announcement that Chris Brown would be headed to Joburg for his tour in December, Sandile quickly got busy with piece in honour of the King of R&B.

This past weekend he had the opportunity to officially reveal his art to Chris Brown himself.

Impressed by the gesture and quality of the art, in one video Chris can be heard complimenting Sandile, saying, “Now that’s fire!” before posing for a picture.

Sandile later revealed that it was Major League DJz who helped make the moment possible.

Captioning his post, he wrote: “My turn. Chris Brown owns an artwork by me!”

Meanwhile, Sandile was not the only one to create an art piece of the singer – so did renowned artist Rasta.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) he shared his own version of Chris sitting on top of the iconic FNB Stadium at which he performed. However, the response from the public was mixed.
