When hearing the name Anele Mdoda, many things come to mind as the media personality has taken up many lanes in her career, from being a radio presenter to being a thriving businesswoman. Looking like she has no intentions of slowing down, the TV personality has added a film producer hat to the many roles she already takes up.

Rose and Oaks is a media production company which Anele Mdoda owns, alongside her two business partners Frankie du Toit and Paul Buys. The company is responsible for bringing popular shows such as ‘The Masked Singer South Africa’ which has proven to be a fan favourite.

In more recent and exciting news, a Rose and Oaks production is set to be featured at the renowned Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. Taking place at the Lightbox Cultural Centre, the event will be honouring the imaginative storytelling that comes to life in the form of film.

“Our mission is to transform the way people see the world through film. This year’s festival programming reflects that mission,” their website explains.

‘Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight’ is a Rose and Oaks production, executively produced by Anele Mdoda, that will be featured at the illustrious festival this year, positioning itself just correctly to gain international recognition.

It is a film adaptation of the eponymous book, and according to IMDb, the film “Depicts 8-year-old Bobo’s life on her family’s Rhodesian farm during the Bush War’s final stages. It explores the family’s bond with Africa’s land and the war’s impact on the region and individuals through Bobo’s perspective.”

“We relish our collaboration with directors that have such distinctive creative voices as Embeth Davidtz,” Anele Mdoda said.

The film is made up of an exciting cast including fan favourite Zikhona Bali, who is deserving of an opportunity of this calibre, as well as Davidtz and eight-year-old Lexi Venter, who will be making her acting debut as the main character in the film, Bobo.

This is a great opportunity not only for Rose and Oaks, but for the South African film industry as a whole as it will showcase a glimpse of what Mzansi has to offer when it comes to storytelling.
