After HIV activist and motivational speaker Lebogang Motsumi alleged that the late kwaito star Tebogo ‘Zombo’ Ndlovu purposely infected her with HIV, media and TV personality Andile Ncube shared his recollection of the day Zombo revealed his HIV status before his passing.

Lebogang detailed her experience with Zombo, stating that she had a desire to become famous and met the star in a club when she was 17 years old. The two allegedly exhanged numbers and had a sexual relationship.

After aborting a pregnancy that Zombo denied, Lebogang shared, “He then reached out and asked me to watch a music show on SABC1. I think it’s called Live Amp now. He appeared on the show sitting in a wheelchair. He then disclosed his HIV status and mentioned he went around spreading the virus because he didn’t want to die alone.”

Seeing Lebogang’s post, Andile responded and shared his memory of the time Zombo came out as HIV positive.

“I’ll never forget that day. He called me and said, ‘We need to talk Mfo.’ I’d seen him and knew he wasn’t well. I was the executive producer and host of Live at the time. He didn’t want to disclose why he wanted to talk to me, he just asked that I give him time. He said this is the best way to tell everyone.”

Andile added that Zombo arrived at the studio with his 999 record label team. Also present was singer Arthur Mafokate, who allegedly repeated “uzozizwela” (you will hear it for yourself).

The Young, Famous & African star then mentioned he could tell that Zombo was not well. “He spoke for a couple of seconds and then boom! Almost 20 years across platforms and disciplines and that day still stands out.”

Commenting on Lebogang’s allegations, Andile concluded, “To be honest, I don’t remember him saying he infected people purposely but it’s a long time ago, so memory isn’t great but I do remember him telling all the girls he’d been with to go tested.”
