Americans criticize Tyla for not listing Beyonce in her top 5 favourite artists

by Sergio Miller

If it’s not her race then it’s a problem with her personal preferences, despite her determination and strong work ethic, it seems that there will always be some people that will criticize the young South African talent.

This past week the Water hitmaker received lots of backlashes after telling an American reporter that she identifies as coloured – an ethnic group in South Africa that many around the world often refer to as “mixed race.”

However, in America this is considered to be a derogatory term, and Americans instead insisted that she should identify as black.

While the debate surrounding this topic has not yet been solved. A new video emerged in which Tyla highlights her top five favourite artists of all time – this added more fuel to her fire.

In a short snippet of the interview which was done with the YouTube podcast Real Lyfe Productions Tyla was asked about who her top five favourite artists were. In the interview, which was done six months ago, she mentioned the following:

“Definitely Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Drake … The last one is always going to be a difficult one, but then I would also say Wizkid, because I feel like he has been around for so long and he has done so much for the culture and genres so I would definitely put him there.”

While this is a clear indication of the 21-year-old’s personal preferences, many X users have criticized the singer for not mentioning Queen B, Beyonce Knowles.

This is what some users had to say:

Is this not a little ridiculous? pic.twitter.com/RHcPDosito

Miss “colored” Tyla shouldn’t forget to mention Beyoncè as her inspo.

She and the entire country of South Africa have been profiting from black American dance moves.

You copied our dances and now you claim them as amapiano and barcadi. We FBAs are tired of you copycat tethers. https://t.co/8uQVAcFDsj pic.twitter.com/5zXBrXb85C

Meanwhile, in defence of the Joburg singer, other users wrote:

You cannot be mad at Tyla for not listing Beyoncé in her top 5. Remember Tyla is like 1 generation removed from Beyoncé. You might as well be mad that she didn’t list Janet Jackson and Madonna as inspo as well ?

Why are people mad that Tyla didn’t include Beyoncé on her Top 5 artists of all time ?? ? like girl she has her own preference
