American Producer Declares South African Music “Next Level”

South African music has long been celebrated locally, but it’s now making waves on the global stage and a recent viral moment proves just how far its influence reaches.

During an episode of the Dubai-based podcast “Jibber with Jaber,” an American music producer expressed unreserved admiration for South Africa’s vibrant music scene, highlighting genres ranging from house and jazz to rap and Amapiano.

“What’s in their water?”

The producer, who remains unnamed, didn’t hold back. He praised South African artists for their unmatched skill, saying:

“South Africa, and I will stand on this, has outside of America, the best English-speaking MCs in the world. Their level of musicality is insane—from house to Amapiano, hip-hop, even singing. I was like, what? What’s in their water? Shout out to South Africa.”

His excitement was clear, noting that whether it’s producing, rapping, or singing, South African musicians consistently operate at a global standard few can rival.

Viral reactions and TikTok love

A short clip from the podcast has since gone viral on TikTok, amassing over 76,000 likes and a flood of reactions. Social media users praised both the commentary and South Africa’s cultural impact.

TikTok user Baradi Thornton wrote:
“Best spoken English globally. Most neutral and clean. We ALL KNOW.”

Another, @Zazajc, joked:
“It’s the Woolworths water, baby.”

And K commented:
“South Africa has the top 2 music catalogue in the world, only rivalled by the USA…from Gospel, jazz…. all the way to urban music.”

The clip has sparked conversation not just about the quality of South African music, but also its cultural resonance, with international audiences taking notice of the country’s unique sound.

South African music conquers the world

Over the past decade, South African artists have successfully taken their sounds global, dominating both local and international charts. From the infectious rhythms of Amapiano to globally respected house and jazz scenes, the nation’s musicians continue to deliver a sound that is distinct, innovative, and celebrated worldwide.

As this viral clip shows, South Africa isn’t just producing music, it’s shaping the global conversation around talent, creativity, and cultural pride. And for listeners around the world, the message is clear: the sound coming from the southern tip of Africa is one to pay attention to.
